Muck-Away Software: What Should a 5–30 Truck Operator Look For?
Choosing muck-away software for a fleet of 5–30 trucks? Start with the jobs your drivers actually do. A useful system should connect the office, driver, vehicle, destination and completed load record without adding unnecessary administration.
1. Can it manage a muck-away job from start to finish?
Ask to see how the office creates and assigns a job, records the collection site and intended receiving facility, and follows the work through to completion. Test what happens when the destination changes, a load is rejected or a driver needs new instructions. The completed record should show what happened, not merely what was planned.
2. Will drivers actually use it?
Get a driver to test the app on a real job. How many steps does it take to start, record and complete a load? Can they capture photographs, signatures or notes where required? Is it straightforward to contact the office? Tipper360 supports office-assigned and authorised driver-started jobs, plus live chat.
3. What happens without mobile signal?
Quarries, construction sites and rural facilities do not always have reliable coverage. Ask the supplier to demonstrate offline capture, which actions are available without a signal, and how records synchronise afterwards. Tipper360 supports offline working; the office receives synchronised information when connectivity returns.
4. How does it handle waste records?
Keep operational delivery records distinct from statutory waste documents. A digital delivery docket or weighbridge ticket is not automatically a compliant waste transfer note. The responsible parties must establish the correct waste classification and required paperwork. From 1 October 2026, permitted or licensed receiving sites in England and Wales have digital reporting duties for applicable waste receipts; that does not mean every tipper carrier must submit those receipts to the government service.
Read our waste transfer notes guide and receiving-facility checklist.
5. Can you match weighbridge tickets to the right loads?
Ask how ticket numbers, actual weights, vehicle details and job references are recorded and retrieved. Attaching a ticket or entering a reference is different from an automatic weighbridge integration. If integration is offered, confirm which equipment and systems are supported, what information is exchanged and what it costs. See our weighbridge reconciliation guide.
6. What about subcontractors?
Check how external drivers receive work, what information they can access and how their completed load records return to your office. Confirm whether subcontractor usage is included in the price. Tipper360 subscriptions are charged per truck; subcontractor usage is subject to the applicable commercial terms.
7. What can the office retrieve after the job?
Ask an office user to find five completed loads, including one with a changed destination and one missing a ticket. Can they identify the customer, vehicle, driver, times, quantities and supporting evidence where recorded? Can they retrieve and download the proof needed for customer queries and invoicing? Tipper360 supports completed job records and bulk POD downloads by date.
8. What does the full cost look like for 5, 10 or 30 trucks?
Compare per-truck subscriptions, setup, support, training, office access, subcontractor arrangements and any integrations. A low headline price is less useful if staff still need to reconstruct every load from calls, messages and paper.
Five scenarios to test before you buy
- Assign and complete a normal muck-away job.
- Change the destination after the driver starts.
- Associate a weighbridge ticket with the correct movement.
- Complete a load without signal and show how it synchronises.
- Use a subcontractor and retrieve the completed record in the office.
Judge the software by how well it handles these real situations, not by the length of the feature list.
Where Tipper360 fits
Tipper360 connects tipper and muck-away jobs, drivers, subcontractors and office records. It supports offline capture, live chat, vehicle checks and digital evidence associated with the movement. It is not the government Digital Waste Tracking service and does not automatically replace statutory waste documentation.
